The Wiking Division was the only SS armoured division to fight exclusively on the Eastern front. It is true that it was partly made up of Flemish, Dutch and Scandinavian volunteers whose main reason for joining, for most of them, was to fight Bolshe- vism. It fought with undeniable energy even though its efforts and sacrifices were not always rewarded with victory, like at Tcherkassy or in Hungary. In its ranks it had officers of the calibre of Felix Steiner, Herbert-Otto Gille, August Dieckmann, Hans Dorr and Walther Schmidt, just to mention a few. Its his- tory was very rich and is illustrated by more than 2 500 exceptional photographs coming mainly from personal collections, and told here in a series of three volumes.

The first volume covers the period from December 1940 to April 1942, the second from May 1942 to April 1943 and finally the third tells the story of the last two years of the war.
