In “Normandie 1944”, a collection of eighty-page fascicules, after Sword, Objectif Caen, here is another unpublished subject. After the suc- cessful airborne operation in the Cotentin and the successive landings on Utah and Omaha beaches, the American paratroopers from the 101st (made famous by the TV series Band of Brothers) rushed towards the little town of Carentan held by German paratroopers under von der Heydte. The American paratroopers captured several bridges there with bayonet charges and took Carentan finally on 10 and 11 June. The two American bridgeheads had linked up. The little town however was threatened on the 12th by a counter-attack by the “Götz” panzers. A day-by-day account lavishly illustrated in colour with photos, maps and items of uniform.
