With its 15 plus chapters, this book gives an exhaus- tive insight into the modern submarine and shows what the future of this formidable weapon will be. It answers questions about the state of present-day submarine design and construction. In these complex domains, naval architecture has evolved considerably in all sectors (materials, hydrodynamics, automation, etc.) and in procedures (scientific calculations, experimental modelling, algorithms, production, robotics, etc.).
The purpose of the book is to show the important changes and the modern tendencies, explained by one of the best French naval specialists. In this book, Alain Bovis gives an insight unique among all French technical texts; the resulting book is as precious a workbook for professionals as it is for students.
Polytechnicien and an ENSTA engineer, Alain Bovis has had a long career in the DGA and the DCNS. He has exercised different research, engineering and industrial management functions. He was Director of the DCNS-Nantes-Indret, Managing Director of of Armaris, a subsidiary of both DCN and Thales in 2002. He created DCNS Research, the centre for research and innovation of the DCNS Group.
Today he is at the head of a strategy consultants firm. An expert on naval hydrodynamics and a member of several scientific panels, he was the winner of the Roger Brard Prize in 1993 and the Emile Girardeau Prize of the Académie de marine in 2013.
