This detailed book about the uniforms of the Foreign Legion during the Algerian Conflict shows more than 400 collected items and about 200 period photographs enabling us to recreate that painful war which ended French Algeria, but also put an end to 23 years of unin- terrupted combat by the Foreign Legion, from 1939 to 1962.
The first part describes the main phases of this elite unit’s history on Algerian soil. The second part is devoted to the Foreign Legion soldiers’ uniforms. The third part gives a complete and as yet unpublished study of the Foreign Legion’s Sahara units. The Legion’s Harkis end this survey dedi- cated to the 3 475 legionaries who fell in combat since 1831, as well as all the Algerians of French Algeria killed.
